Nicolas Cardinal was not a direct ancestor (his father Jacques & brother Jean Baptiste) were but this is what I have on Nicolas if it would be of any help in your endeavor.

Was #184 signee of the Oath of Vincennes. note: bp Montreal Aug 25, 1723 son of Jacques Cardinal Marie Jeanne Dugue.(Duquay) He m Marie Joseph Girard Jan 1 -or 4 1761 and at least 10 of their 11 ch were bp there bet 1764-1788 He d Aug 23, 1789 bu at Vincennes the next day

Records of St. Francis Xaviers Cathedral show that Nicolas Cardinal was born at St. Ann's Detroit; d at abt 60 yrs in 1789; dau Genevieve bp Mar 28, 1788 ALS 1 p Marginal note by Draper stating Cardinal was at surrender of Vincennes to Clark Jun 10 1886 23341

Nicholas Cardinal was born 25 Aug 1723 Montreal Canada. He died 24 Aug 1789 and is buried in the St. Francis Xavier Cemetery, Vincennes, Indiana. He married in 1761 to Marie Joseph Girard. Children: Marie Joseph Cardinal born 1776 married Vital Bunche; Celeste Cardinal born 1769 married Joseph Leveron; Francoise; Nicholas; Joseph; Medars; Genevieve married married Francoise Avelin.
