We installed the Jacob Olinger stone on August 14, 2002 at Nebo Cemetery.

The Carroll County Comet a local newspaper covered theThe 150th anniversary of Jacob Olingers death in the middle of Sept 2002.

Born: Oct 3, 1763 Lancaster, Lancaster Co, Pennsylvania. He is the son of Johann Phillip OLINGER and Julianna UMBERGER

Henriech Umberger Family

Died: 1852, buried in Nebo Cemetery, Jackson Township, Carroll County, Indiana. Military Stone, reads "JNO Ollinger, PA Mil".

The Carrol County Historical Society Musuem, responded to a letter i 1994, that it was unable to fint the obituary on John Olinger, HOWEVER, accoriding to the records inthe Veterans Office Cemetery Book., a John Olinger is suppose to be buried in Nebo cemetery and was a Rev War Soldier. Jacob is probably buried there in Nebo but no stone Service: Drafted 1781, while residing in Augusta Co, Virginia; Capt John CUNNINGHAM, Col Samson MATHES. Transferred to Capt Camel CAMERON, later under Capt Samuel MCUTCHEN and Col William BOYERS.

Proof: Rension R 7737, Virginia, served only 3 months and 20 days

This bible is located at the Maxwell Historical Museum in Maxwell, Story County, Iowa. The bible was carried to Iowa by John B. Olinger son of Jacob and Barbary (Downey) Olinger from Carroll County, Indiana. Some of the births and deaths were recorded after the fact. Jacob, shown here as born in Germany is not right. Records show his father, Philip came to America in 1741 as a young adult with his brother George.
